Minster FM
I began my career at Minster
FM in York back in July 2002. For six
months I was part of a team broadcasting to the whole of North Yorkshire.
It was a great introduction to radio journalism and gave me the opportunity
to work on many different stories.
During my first week I was sent to watch the Queen on her jubilee tour. Other highlights includeed the visit of Prince Charles to Selby Abbey, flooding and the continued fall out from the recent outbreak of foot and mouth disease.
By the time I came to leave six months later to move on to Real Radio Yorkshire I was sad to be going but looking forward to new challenges. I made some great friends there who clubbed together to buy me a fountain pen and a food parcel as a tribute to the many lunches of beans on toast I had conjured up while there! There was also a book on driving skills in case I ever found myself broken down again in a Minster FM people carrier as happened two days before!
In September the station's 10th birthday party on board a boat coincided with my birthday. All the sponsors who were there, along with colleagues insisted on singing to me.
Most of the team came along to celebrate me leaving for a meal at Plonkers in York, before heading off to Toffs nightclub.
